Play Expo 2015, and how I learned to believe in magic

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of attending Manchester’s Play Expo. Held at Event City, possibly the coldest event location I’ve ever attended, Play Expo was a gaming convention that promised to blend modern and retro gaming together. With talks from the likes of Warren Davis (creator of Q*bert), the Oliver Twins (creators of Dizzy), as well as a playable Dark Souls 3 demo; Play Expo certainly delivered on its promise.

With gaming in all forms, vendors selling memorabilia, Play Expo had something for gamers both young and old, and it was something that initially pushed me into purchasing my tickets. However, it wasn’t the reason I stayed (and came back for more on its second day).  Read More…

Review – Science of the Magical (ARC)

Science of the Magical is the latest book written by Matt Kaplan, and a spiritual successor to The Science of Monsters. Written in the same vein, Science of the Magical is a “scientific inquiry” that promises to examine the mystical places and objects from tales both of old and new, and try to explain the science behind them.
